Don’t miss Apollo Heights performing on amazing bill next week in New York City! Doors open at 8 pm!
With nearly 30-years under their belt the Daniel and Danny Chavis brothers initially rolled out their musical magic carpet under the name The Veldt in the late 80’s and were notably inspired by early Cocteau Twins. As The Veldt began to gain ground the group landed gigs as support for the Jesus and Mary Chain tour in 1990. It was there that they caught the attention of Cocteau Twins Ruthie Guthrie and a fast musicianship was born. Taking the Chavis brothers under his wing, Guthrie produced some of The Veldt’s earliest recordings that are now heard on Apollo Heights LP White Music for Black People.
Apollo Heights, a crossbreed of The Veldts alternative sound with shoe gaze infused rock laced with a bit of hip hop soul formed in 2002 and quickly saturated into New York City’s music melting pot. In White Music, guest appearances are made by Mos Def, Lady Kier, David Sitek of TV on the Radio, Mike Ladd and Robin Guthrie on guitar. – TPR-Mag.com
